Sharon Lawrence

Sharon Elizabeth Lawrence is an American performer, actress and singer who is most famous for her award-winning portrayal of Sylvia Costas on the show "NYPD Blue'. From her childhood days she has been fascinated by acting and dancing. She was born into a storyteller family, her father was a theatre teacher and even performed in the theatre. Hers was the first of her family who turned her talent into a job. After completing her education in Raleigh, she embarked on the path of acting, and was kickstarted by her appearances in a variety of musical productions. Lawrence was able to begin her stage career in late 1980s. Since her time, she's appeared in numerous TV series and films. With regard to her performance on stage, Lawrence is a part of a number of musicals, including "Cabaret", A Song at Twilight", Fiddler on the Roof" and Chicago". In her role as Sylvia Costas in the police show, 'NYPD Blue was rewarded with a Screen Actors Guild Award. In addition, she has appeared on "Law and Ord Special Victims Unit" as well as 'Ladies Man" "Rizzoli & Isles"as well as "Desperate Housewives," and numerous other TV shows. She is actively involved helping various non-governmental organizations, including 'Women In Film Foundation', the SAG-AFTRA Foundation as well as 'HealTheBay.org and 'WeForShe.org'.
